FAQs
We want the process of starting therapy or psychological testing to feel clear and approachable. Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions we receive. If you still have questions, feel free to contact us or visit our client portal.
What is the No Surprises Act and how does it affect me?
Under the federal No Surprises Act (2022), you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining the expected cost of your mental health care.
If you are uninsured or not using insurance (for example, if you are paying out of pocket), you are entitled to receive an estimate of the total expected charges for services.
You have the right to:
Receive a written Good Faith Estimate before your scheduled services.
Ask for a Good Faith Estimate at any time before you receive care.
Dispute a bill that is $400 or more higher than your Good Faith Estimate.
For more information about your rights under the No Surprises Act, visit:
www.cms.gov/nosurprises
If you receive a bill that is significantly higher than expected, you may contact us to discuss or request a formal dispute resolution process as outlined by federal law.
How do I schedule an appointment?
You can request an appointment at any time through our contact form, by calling 757-255-7445, or by emailing us directly. If you have questions before scheduling, feel free to reach out using the contact form or call us directly.
What is the cost of a session?
Fees vary depending on the type of service provided and whether you’re using insurance or paying privately. If you’re using insurance, your out-of-pocket cost will depend on your specific plan’s copay, coinsurance, or deductible. We’re happy to verify your benefits and provide a clear estimate before your first appointment.
Can testing help with school accommodations or work?
Yes. Psychological assessments can be helpful in clarifying diagnoses and supporting workplace accommodations, medical documentation, or administrative processes—including during military transitions or VA claims. While our evaluations are not official military medical board exams, they can provide clear, clinically grounded information that clients may choose to share with their employer, healthcare team, or legal representative.
What insurance do you take?
We are in-network with Medicare, Optum, UnitedHealthcare, Sentara, Aetna, and Anthem/Blue Cross Blue Shield. We are non-network Certified with Tricare (seeing Active Duty members and dependents with referral and/or through the point of service option). Please note that we are currently not in network with any Medicaid plan. We will regularly update our in-network status as needed.
How does payment work?
Payment or co-payment is due at the time of service. We accept cash and credit, debit, and HSA/FSA cards through our secure online platform.
What types of psychological assessments do you provide?
We offer comprehensive evaluations for ADHD, mood and anxiety disorders, PTSD, OCD, and other diagnostic concerns. We also provide cognitive and intellectual testing (IQ), as well as personality assessments. Testing includes a feedback session and a detailed written report tailored to your needs.
